Sheep Herding Clinic with Ian Caldicott Ian, who has been training and preparing dogs and handlers for work and trials for 20 years, is holding a one-day herding clinic for all breeds and handlers. The event offers three options for herding enthusiasts of various levels of knowledge and experience. Training: for those with some experience in herding, the trainer will work individually with you and your dog, giving you guidance on specific areas. You will also be able to observe other lessons, presentations, and demonstrations. $110 per dog/1 handler. Evaluation: designed to introduce herding tools and techniques to the beginning dog and handler, the trainer will assess your dog's herding interest, ability and potential, and offer guidance on how to proceed with training. $85 per dog/1 handler. Spectator: spectators will gain insight into various training techniques and pick up practice tips by listening and observing lessons, presentations and demonstrations. $60 per person. More About The Clinician: Ian owns/operates Wolston Farm in Scio, Oregon, where he raises a flock of over 150 sheep and hosts numerous training events and trials including the Border Collie AKC National Herding Specialty (2011), two USBCHA trials annually, and an AHBA trial. With a background in education, Ian combines a gift for teaching with his ability to recognize and work with the natural strengths and instincts of each individual breed. While many clinics focus on teaching specific training techniques, Ian will focus mainly on the mental side of training your dog; teaching you the correct attitude and bearing needed to get the most out of any and all techniques and tools you may use. Hi everyone, I know this has nothing to do with getting our doggies out for some fun but this is a very important cause and we need your help! Were heading out to protest Petland in Roseville because they continue to sell puppies from horrible places called Puppy Mills. The Petland in Roseville is being supplied by the Hunte Corporation. Undercover footage of the Breeding Facilities Hunte buys from. If you would like to join us, here is some information. We are a peaceful protesting group, we do not encourage "attacking" petland costumers or employees. Let the public approach us with their questions, we are more then willing to answer them. Please park across the street by Chuck-E-Cheese. You can park by Startbucks but out of respect you should use their facility. (buy something) We have plenty of signs to share with everyone, please feel free to make your own if you would like. Email me if you need suggestions. You might also want to wear sunblock and bring yourself something cool to drink. I don't recommend you bring your dog(s) since the honks for support gets loud and we can get a lot of people approaching us for information. That's about it, we will be starting at 10:00am and we will stay until Noon. Please consider joining us!!! We always have a great time out there, talking with fellow animal lovers and making a difference while were at it I hope to see you all Saturday!

Hi all- Let's meet and try some agility equipment. I can provide instruction, tunnel, ladder, jump and miscellaneous info on agility. If anyone has contact equipment they can bring, that would make this a very exciting event! If you have another tunnel or jump, or agility kit, feel free to bring that too! And really important...I ask people to read the About page, but somehow not everyone makes it that far so here it is reprinted: Why agility? You play a tremendous role in influencing your dog's personality, intelligence and disposition. We believe that to have a happy well-behaved dog (i.e., Phideaux), you will get out of Phideaux what you put into Phideaux. Agility helps with that essential need of exercise for Phideaux (as well as for yourself) and helps build confidence for both of you through positive reinforcement training. Our approach is a positive one only. Above all, we want to HAVE FUN!! We train by the KISS principle: Keep It Simple Silly. Praise, Consistency, Rewards, Loving your dog, Consistency, and still more Praise is the important philosophy of our training. Kisses and hugs to your pet is much encouraged. For our Agility meetups there will be a request to have some basic equipment (no really, it isn't all that much). Here is a list that will make learning agility that much easier: 1. Attitude: Must be positive. Enthusiasm very much necessary to the success of Phideaux's learning. Leaving all of the world's worries behind when we meetup is very important! Phideaux needs to see you happy and willing to focus on the great things he/she is doing. 2. Love of Phideaux: More Praise and rewards because Phideaux is so cute and is really trying to please you! 3. Happy voice and face: Happy voice is high pitched (and men, we can work within your rangesmile) and smiles are very necessary for your pet to do well! 4. Rewards: This can be a ball, a favorite toy, a film canister filled with Phideaux's favorite treat. You may also want to have a treat bag to hold Phideaux's treats. 5. Buckle collar (no choke collars or pinch collars please.) Gentle leader collars also acceptable. 6. 6-foot leather lead (nylon is okay but it does hurt the hands and frays after awhile). 7. 4-inch to 6-inch (depending on size of dog) leather lead called a tab. Used for off-leash training. It is short enough to stay out of dog's way but long enough to grab quickly. I will talk more on this. These are hard to find in the big pet stores. 8. Chair for you to sit in on "down" times. 9. Pooper scooper bags, in case there are none. 10. Umbrellas for shade. 11. Non-slip shoes. 12. Water and water bowls. 13. Towels (good to drench and use for yourself and pets and can use dry ones for the car if your pet is wet during the dry weather). 14. Don't forget the snack for you as well as water! 15. Camera for your own bragging rights! (Obviously, this is optional!) We look forward to seeing you out there with Phideaux (or whatever endearment you call your pal with four legs)! Also, if you know Clicker Training, please bring your Clickers. There is a wonderful article on the Files by Jamie on prepping your pooch for Clicker-training and here is the link (it is the first post listed that you see): http://agility.meetu p.com/59/files/ Last thing: I will be there at 7:30 am to set up. Please come early if you have equipment to set up. Also, it is good to come early to let the dogs run for a while and play before getting started. We will get started on time. I have no idea how hot it will be, but I want to clear out before 10 am. You can stay to play in the dog park, but please wet down your dogs since they don't have an efficient cooling system! I hope to see you there! Cheers! Sharon Gulliford Assistant Organizer for Dog Activity Play and Agility Group P.S. Since equipment costs to build, I ask that member provide a donation of any amount to our group. This will help future meetups be greater as more equipment will be built. I say that there is a charge per this meetup but it is up to you how much you contribute (if you are really strapped, come out anyway. We still want you out there to take care of yourselves by having fun!)

Petland is a national 140-store chain that was recently the subject of an eight-month investigation by The Humane Society of the United States revealing that many Petland stores across the country are marketing puppy mill puppies to unsuspecting consumers. See the investigation video here. http://video.hsus.or g/index.jsp?fr_story =0c93a9d9fc95294ce27 99e00afa093d12f33d3e 4 Local advocates have been protesting the new Roseville store every weekend. We had a HUGELY successful National Demonstration Day in January with a hundred advocates joining in! Check out photos from the day here. http://flickr.com/ph otos/tags/petlandpro testroseville We need you all again to come out on March 14, as part of the March edition of The HSUS' National Petland Demonstration Day. Join us, and bring a friend, from 1-3 pm, rain or shine. Bring a homemade sign OR we have plenty to lend you one. Don't you worry, your hands won't be empty! Please mark your calendar, RSVP, and plan to join us to make a difference and ensure our voices heard to STOP PUPPY MILLS. Also please start now collecting and saving cat and dog food to bring with you as we will hold a simultaneous drive to support the efforts of the Lucky Paws Foundation to help pet owners get through these hard times and keep their pets as part of the family.

UPDATED! Show your love for animals and make a date to make a difference this Valentine's Day! Petland in Roseville is still open for business and selling puppies from puppy mills every day... more than 200 puppies since they opened in November. Join us to ask them to stop selling puppies and to educate our community about the cruelty behind the cuteness. Come out and bring your sweetie! We have signs to share but feel free to make your own Valentine's Day themed sign and wear your favorite pink/red gear! There will be a prize for the most-loved (brings the most friends) and most heart-felt (makes the best sign). Stay for as long as you can, but come even if you have only got an hour to spare. ** We will be collecting bags of dog food to donate to a local dog food bank on Saturday. Please consider making a donation. ** Remember to park across the street at the parking lot by the Home Depot/ Chuck E. Cheese. Hope to see you there! *please note this protest is ongoing, we are out there every Saturday from 10am to 2 pm

Hello again, National Petland Demonstration Day is here ! This seems to be our biggest event to date. I heard 40 people have put in their RSVP already ! I will send you the email I received so we can be on the same page. We will be protesting at our usual spot, 9400 Fairway Drive in Roseville at 10:00am In addition to protesting and handing out flyers we will also have a donation box available for you to bring towels or blankets you would like to donate to shelter animals . This looks like it's going to be a very special day and it's also extremely important that we have all the support we can get. Since we may have over 50 people showing we have to be very respectful and peaceful. The Roseville police have already been notified of our event and they said we must stay off of private property and only on public sidewalks. The email I will send you has all the details . If you have some free time please come out and help end Puppy Mills ! I know a lot of people have said their coming but please don't let that stop you from joining, even 10 minutes goes a long way. If your thinking about joining us, please put in your RSVP so we can have an estimate on how many people we can expect. Thanks in advance and have a wonderful week .
